The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is a globally leading research centre in development of cementitious materials to resolve society’s most pressing problems. As a Research Associate in the Department, you will contribute to maintaining our reputation for research excellence in this domain, by developing new cementation processes for the safe final treatment of radioactive waste. This research project is a collaboration led by The University of Sheffield, together with partners in the National Nuclear Laboratory.
Candidates should hold or be close to completion of a PhD (or have equivalent experience) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or another relevant discipline, with a good first degree (or equivalent experience).
Knowledge and experience of Cement Chemistry and Engineering is essential. Experience of basic materials characterisation techniques, including XRD, SEM, TG, vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR and UV-Visible) and analytical techniques for dissolved species in aqueous solution is essential. Candidates should also have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience of delivering presentations in a clear yet concise manner.
The position is offered as a fixed term appointment with a target start date in Feb 2022.
