Job Description

Donors to the University of Sheffield do incredible things. From opening-up education to talented students no matter their background, to helping researchers make life-changing medical breakthroughs.

Could you inspire more people to give? If you’re a positive and engaging relationship-builder with the confidence to make direct asks for support, then you could be our next Philanthropy Manager.

This fundraising role is in the Campaigns and Alumni Relations department (CAR). We’re responsible for raising money and building lifelong relationships with our graduates. Within CAR, our friendly Individual Giving team works to raise gifts of up to £25,000 by mail, phone, community fundraising and by building personal relationships.

The Philanthropy Manager will:
• Secure gifts at the top end of our Individual Giving programme, asking people to give £5,000-£25,000.
• Meet potential donors face-to-face (or by phone/video) and present a compelling case for support.
• Demonstrate the impact of each donor’s support and ensure they have an exceptional experience.

This role would suit someone who is confident building relationships with people from a range of backgrounds, including those in senior positions in their careers. You’ll be able to use your communication skills to persuade, influence and negotiate. And you’ll be driven to meet individual targets, whilst taking a methodical approach to your work. The successful candidate will be mentored by an experienced face-to-face fundraiser and will be trained on how to present our fundraising projects.

Keen to join the team? We’re also recruiting for an Individual Giving Manager, full details are on our recruitment webpages. If your skills match this role too then we’d encourage you to apply for both positions. The selection process for both roles will take place on the same day.

We are one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. Your benefits will include:
• 41 days annual leave (including closure days and Bank Holidays), with the possibility to purchase up to ten additional days.
• Up to 5 days of paid time off to cover emergency caring responsibilities.
• A commitment to work life balance including, flexible working opportunities and hybrid working where possible.
• A highly competitive pension scheme.
• Discounts at participating shops and cinemas, and a cycle to work scheme.
• Personal development opportunities, with programmes, learning modules and mentoring schemes.
• A commitment to your wellbeing, with confidential emotional support, support for those going through the menopause, experiencing fertility treatment and having a baby, paid leave for IVF treatment and more.
