Job Description

Cheshire Constabulary is promoting to the rank of Sergeant, we are looking for high performing qualified Constables who are eligible for promotion to join our front line leaders and deliver even safer communities for the whole of Cheshire.

The promotion process is now open and closes at 09.00am on Monday 22nd March. Specific roles and postings will be determined upon appointment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be currently serving as a Police Constable
  • Completed your probation period as per Police (Promotion) regulation 1996
  • Hold a valid pass for the NPPF Step 2 Sergeants legal exam of OSPRE I and II
  • Are not subject to any sanctions or live actions in relation to the Unsatisfactory performance and/or attendance procedure
  • Meet the forces attendance standards (An applicant must not exceed 4 periods of absence OR 9 days of absence within the last 12 months
  • Are willing/able to be posted in any post within the force area


The application for the Sergeant Promotion Process requires applicants to evidence four competencies within the Competency Values Framework (CVF) at Level 2 by making reference to experience gained within the last 2 years. Applicants are strongly advised to read the CVF for the role of Chief Inspector (Level 2) prior to applying.
