Job Description

This is an outstanding opportunity for an academic to join the Department of Neuroscience and make a contribution to neurology health related research at The University of Sheffield. We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow who is an outstanding health researcher in the mid stage of their research career. This new post is to support the delivery of a newly awarded NIHR Research professorship “Better outcomes for people living with MND”.

The objectives of the programme are to determine:

  • If highly specialised personalised evidence-based multidisciplinary care for people living with MND be delivered effectively close to home?
  • Can technology and patient centred outcome measures reduce burden and increase participation in clinical trials?

You will join an enthusiastic interdisciplinary research team led by Professor Chris McDermott, professor of translational neurology. You will be responsible for the qualitative research and other aspects of the programme. This will include participant recruitment, data collection, analysis, synthesis of data from different parts of the programme and report writing.

The programme is national in scope and will require wide liaison. You will be carrying out interviews with patients, their families and their care providers, and conducting focus groups with health care professionals and members of the public. You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of PhD students attached to the programme. You will be responsible for supporting the roll out additional sites including assisting with associated ethical, governance and contracting arrangements. The programme involves the iteration and evaluation of clinical services for people living with MND as new technologies are introduced. Experience with qualitative frameworks suitable for understanding implementation of technologies within healthcare will be essential.
