Job Description

As England’s independent regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments, Ofqual’s job is to maintain standards, to make sure that qualifications accurately reflect the knowledge and skills people have attained through a range of different learning methods.

We work with other Civil Service departments across the spectrum of education to deliver on our priorities and to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners in England.

Ofqual regulates qualifications, exams and assessments in England. We’re here to secure the standards of qualifications, to promote confidence in them and to ensure that the system works well – that standards are maintained.

We have three senior officer roles available. One is a permanent post and two are fixed term posts for a period of 2 years. All posts are in the General Qualifications Directorate.

Whilst the successful applicants may function across a range of activities in the Standards for Design, Development and Evaluation of General Qualifications (DDEGQ) team, their focus will be either on considering applications for recognition as awarding organisations or on reviewing qualification specifications and assessment arrangements. Both of these roles require strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

These are varied and fast-paced roles. You must be capable of explaining complex issues clearly to a range of audiences, managing competing priorities whilst maintaining attention to detail and, in some instances, withstanding professional challenge.
