Job Description

We wish to appoint to a senior clinical academic post based in the Academic Unit of Restorative Dentistry within the School of Clinical Dentistry. We may appoint at Senior Clinical Teacher (SCT) or Senior Clinical Lecturer (SCL) level depending upon the qualifications, experience and career interests of the successful applicant. This post is best suited to an individual whohas a specialist interest in one or more of the sub-disciplines of Endodontics, Periodontics or Prosthodontics The University of Sheffield distinguishes between these two posts as detailed in the University web pages for Senior Lecturer and Senior University Teacher (

SCL is a senior grade in the University’s Teaching and Research Pathway with the following core responsibilities: High Quality Research Outputs, High Quality Teaching Practice and Leadership in Academic Citizenship. SCT is a senior grade in the University’s Teaching Specialist Pathway with the following core responsibilities: High QualityTeaching Practice, Leadership in Academic Citizenship and Professional Standing and Wider Engagement.
This post is required to contribute to the delivery of all Learning and Teaching (L&T) activities in the School.

You will have a BDS degree or equivalent and a higher degree or equivalent e.g. Med, MPhil, DClinDent, RCS Specialty Membership. You will be clinically qualified, have full registration with the General Dental Council and will have completed your specialist training in an area of restorative dentistry and be on the appropriate specialist list of the General Dental Council.

For appointment as a Senior Clinical Lecturer, you will have a strong track record of research and will be given encouragement and support to develop your research within one of the research groups in the School. You will have a PhD or equivalent, a track record of research with high quality publications, grant income and evidence of independence as a researcher. You will have a strong track record of innovation, development and delivery in L&T and will have experience of curriculum development and leadership. You will have a higher degree and evidence of scholarship.
