Our Licensing Caseworkers provide support for the Traffic Commissioners and enable them to undertake their duties in relation to the licensing and regulation of goods and public service vehicle operators. They ensure that operators and applicants have provided sufficient information to allow their applications to be processed and provide help and advice where applications are incomplete.
Reporting into the Licensing Team Leader your main responsibilities in the role will be to:
- Process applications and assess against the legal and mandatory criteria
- Act as the first point of contact for customer and operator enquiries
- Refer cases to the Traffic Commissioners which do not meet the criteria for granting
- Interpret legislation and regulations to ensure cases are compliant
- You will have impeccable time management and organisational skills, capable of managing several tasks with conflicting deadlines and competing resources. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills capable of efficiently communicating with the wider team and members of the public. You have a strong knowledge of IT systems and Microsoft applications particularly Word, Excel and Outlook. You will also have good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Important information regarding Vetting Checks
- Due to Covid-19, there is less capacity to complete National Security Vetting checks. Vetting is being prioritised for staff either directly involved in the HMG Covid-19 Response or roles in a limited number of agreed high priority areas.
- Therefore, in some instances, following successful BPSS pre-employment checks, the successful candidate may commence employment on the premise that NSV higher security checks will be conducted once normal service levels resume. Should NSV checks prove to be unsuccessful, an alternative role, not requiring NSV clearance, will be identified within the department.
- If this is not possible the start date for some campaigns will need to be delayed until vetting has been completed.
