Are you a practice-focused creative with a professional background in console-based games art, with an emphasis on character modelling and environmental design? If you are we would love to hear from you.

The role is to facilitate teaching and learning across our three BA (Hons) programmes in Design for Digital Media, Animation and Games Art & Design courses.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Interdisciplinary skills and knowledge to engage with students across these degree programmes, with a particular focus on creative practices in games design, environments, character design, and the creation of 3D assets.
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital media scholarship, as well experience working in the creative or professional industries is essential.
  • A background in undergraduate teaching and practice-led research is required, as are the skills to work flexibly within a team, to effectively time manage and to meet pressing deadlines.

Core elements of the role include:

  • To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of digital games art and design.
  • To contribute to teaching on a range of theory and practice modules within the BA Games Art and Design programme, (which may include) Design Principles, Sequence and Narrative, 2D Animation Principles, 2D into 3D Animation, Virtual Design Studio, Collaboration and Context, Context and Consolidation.
  • To translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort.
  • To foster new relationships with commercial and cultural institutions that will enhance student opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of relevant technology and packages such as Unreal, Unity, Blender and Maya would be an advantage.
  • To nurture creativity and artistic flair across our student community.
  • To inspire and drive the creative vision of the course and the team.
  • To survey, maintain and support all academic processes.
  • To conduct and develop own research and practice.

In a city with a wealth of creative and digital enterprise, the School has built a strong set of pedagogic and enterprise relationships with key media and arts organisations, including Brighton Digital Festival, Screen Archive South East and the Brighton Film Festival “CineCity”.

You will be based at our campus at Edward Street in the city centre, a hub for the University’s creative courses, ground-breaking exhibitions and international research.
