Job description

DVSA Digital, Data & Technology 

Working as a member of the Core Infrastructure team, specialising in Database solutions. You will work with the Senior Database and Platform Engineer and assist with the support, development, maintenance, backup and DR of the Agencies Database Systems. The role will sit within the platform team so current knowledge of core platform services such as public cloud, server Infrastructure etc would be beneficial.

You will also have the opportunity to develop existing knowledge by supporting the wider Infrastructure team in Networking and EUC technologies.

DVSA has a large number of sites and there may be the need to travel to various locations to install, troubleshoot, replace equipment and to perform upgrades as and when required.
Occasional out of hours and on call work will be necessary, so the role will require some flexibility.


Include but not limited to:

  • Assisting with operations and maintenance of core infrastructure services.
  • Work with the Senior Database and Platform Engineer to design, plan, implement, and release necessary changes according to the needs of the business.
  • Applying policies and processes around IT change. Carrying out Impact Assessments and understand how the business would be effected by the change.
  • Provide support to end users and IT teams to ensure appropriate use of the core infrastructure.
  • Participate in incident management. Prioritise incidents to help deliver within SLAs. Carry out strong diagnosis to discover root cause and resolutions.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will need strong understanding of SQL Databases, you will be comfortable Maintaining the Databases as well as reporting, securing the Database and Database Recovery . We would love to hear from individuals with an understanding of incident, problem and change management coupled with an experience of handling and resolving complex technical issues within a digital environment.
