UKAEA requires a Finance Business Partner to support the Senior Programme Finance Manager for JET, providing planning & analysis, accounting and reporting to inform decision making and to drive financial performance.
The JET Finance Team currently supports three programmes of very high financial importance to UKAEA and scientific importance to international fusion research. The team also manage a large and complex international contract for funding most of JET operations.
The plans for JET are constantly evolving, which is expected to give the post holder excellent opportunities for development, involvement in the redesign of processes and for non-routine work.
The role will assist with the provision of financial and performance information for decision making within UKAEA, to central government departments and to international bodies.
It will also involve accurately processing journals to our general ledger and assisting to close the monthly accounts. Collaboration within the team and across the authority will be key to achieving this.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience
-Qualified or working towards a relevant professional accounting qualification with demonstrable experience;
-Experience of project costing and forecasting
-Experience of working closely with business teams in a “business partner” capacity
-Highly proficient in Excel
-To understand the principles of revenue recognition
-To have an appreciation of multi-funding control requirements
-To have experience of an ERP accounting system [Unit 4 (Agresso) would be an advantage]
-Able to work on occasion to challenging timescales while still ensuring accuracy
