Job Description

Joining DVSA as a driving examiner is your chance to play a key role in improving UK road safety. By ensuring that new drivers possess the necessary skills to drive safely and effectively roads. Our vision is for safer drivers, safer vehicles and safer roads.

Being a driving examiner involves meeting a variety of new people every day, and testing their driving skills out on the road. You will be calm under pressure and able to put learner drivers at ease at a time when they are likely to be nervous. You will work in a great place, with friendly colleagues as committed as you are.

When you join us as a driving examiner, we will support you with 5 weeks modular training. You have to pass each modular element in order to pass the training.

Additionally successful candidates must satisfy our requirements by completing a full-enhanced DBS check as part of pre-employment checks.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities in this role will be:

  •  conducting safe and consistent driving tests with learner drivers and reporting test results
  • being calm, friendly and courteous with all candidates
  • comply with DVSA guidelines on driving tests and develop your skills where necessary
  • getting on well with colleagues and managers
Essential Requirements

You must be at least 23 years of age and have held a Full UK or EU licence continuously for the last 3 years with no more than 3 penalty points.

You will also need to hold a Full Category A Motorcycle licence and have regular and recent experience of riding large motorcycles

Further Information

All successful Driving Examiners will be required to conduct Category B (car) tests during the probationary period. This could be extended depending on the needs of the business. On completion of probation, you will then begin to conduct motorcycle driving tests.

Licences
