Providing a wide range of services to help support students’ health and wellbeing and academic studies, the Student Support Services (SSS) provides essential services that contribute positively to the quality of the student experience and play an important and pivotal role to the University’s success.

The Director of SSS holds overall responsibility for the University strategy for student support and is responsible for student welfare across the University. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Academic Services, the Director leads in the development and delivery of a high quality and customer focused service, with the key priority to enhance and support the student experience. Providing expert advice across the institution, the Director is required to engage and work effectively with a wide audience and build on the existing strong links to the Faculties and the Student Union.

The Candidate:

This role is a multifaceted, key strategic position which requires an experienced and senior individual who can operate successfully in a large and complex environment. The successful candidate will not only have the relevant skills and experience needed to help deliver the strategy for student support but will also have the right values and attitudes to play a part in the delivery of first-class student services.
With prior experience managing student support services, the Director must have a good understanding of key agendas, including mental health, access and participation, and Office for Students regulatory requirements. With responsibility for leading and developing several teams, the Director will need to have proven people management skills and the ability to lead services through change. The successful candidate will also need to have a strong personal affinity with student support and will bring proactivity, energy and innovation to the team, with the ability to foster a culture that is collegiate and inclusive.
