Historic England have a new unique opportunity for you to join us as our Archaeological Conservator to work alongside and learn from a highly experienced archaeological conservator and use our new X-Ray facility.

This is a fixed term contract until March 2022 with a possibility of an extension.

What you will be doing:

We need you to support the Senior conservator in providing strategic and casework advice in archaeological conservation within Historic England and to external clients. An important part of your role will be to undertake radiography of metal artefacts recovered from archaeological sites and carry out investigative conservation in support of the Historic England Corporate Plan and Research Agenda.

You will be responsible for actively engage in increasing the public value of archaeological conservation research taking part in public engagement activities. You will facilitate access to external users of our X-Ray facilities. You will work closely with and will liaise with the Senior conservator (terrestrial) in the performance of these duties.

Who we are looking for:

  • A recognised professional qualification in archaeological conservation or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience in the use of X-ray equipment as applied to cultural materials, in particular metalwork
  • Expertise in the conservation recording and interpretation of artefacts commonly recovered from terrestrial archaeological sites in the UK
