Job Description

We are recruiting for an Apprentice who will support both the Projects and Engineering teams with a range of practical office management duties across the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD).

The Barbican Centre is Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue. The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, is a world leading specialist Performing Arts Conservatoire, investing in the artists of today and tomorrow.

The successful apprentice will be involved in all aspects of administration across the 2 departments, including dealing with email enquiries, answering telephone calls, typing and photocopying, collecting and distributing the post and updating Excel databases. You will also have the opportunity to arrange meetings, take minutes at meetings and manage the meeting room diary.

You will have good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to think problems through. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide a polite and courteous service to our customers at all times is essential.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Outlook is required.

To qualify for this apprenticeship opportunity you will need to be:

  • 16 or over
  • Living in England
  • Not in full-time education at the time of applying
  • Not have a previous Level 3 qualification (or higher)

The position will incorporate one day per week of study towards a qualification in Level 3 Business Administration and will provide an opportunity to explore own specific interests within the department.

Based on current Government guidance the Barbican has made a decision to temporarily close to safeguard public health. Due to this closure the apprentice will be required to work from home until the building re-opens and staff are able to work on site safely.
